  • Sitting Director of Field Service/COO in a class 200 metro council with 16 years management experience in three different regions, four councils covering urban, surburban and rural.

  • Council Spokesperson for the last 10 years in Chicago Area Council and the San Francisco Bay Area Council.  Experience in dealing with media, donors and volunteers on a wide range of positive public relations opportunities, as well as challenging issues, including our constitutional issues, timber harvesting and IV files.

  • Managed a part time staff of 70 and a full time staff of 4 for a Learning for Life program that served 1100 underserved youth in at-risk communities with diverse programming including science and computers, dance, culinary arts, gardening, sports, art and tutoring.

  • Legal Issues: worked with council attorney and the national office on a variety of issues ranging from personnel issues, equal benefits ordinances, child abuse and other legal cases.

Membership
  • Long history of consistent membership growth; 20 years of achieving national membership goals.

  • As of September 2014, 42 consecutive months of Traditional and Exploring membership growth.

  • ​One of only 25 councils to achieve the Gold JTE in membership in 2012 with 3.4% growth.  One of only 64 Councils to grow traditional and Exploring membership in 2013.

  • Grew Exploring by 129.1% over the last five years.

  • Managed a traditional membership field of 16,000 youth to consistent growth each year of the assignment.

  • Achieved a 10% growth in adult volunteers over three years.

  • Led membership initiatives to serve and grow membership in emerging and underserved markets.

 

Fundraising/Fiscal Management

  • Raised $8.2 Million in operating revenue as Director of Field Service/COO of San Francisco Bay Area Council.

  • Secured $141,000 over six years from The Guardsmen to send at risk youth to summer camp.

  • Raised $150,000 from Aetna for our Learning for Life healthy living program from 2011 through 2013.

  • $70,000 over five years from the Rogers Family Foundation for Scouting in inner city Oakland.

  • Advised or Supervised more than 50 special event fundraisers on the council and district level including breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, cocktail receptions, golf tournaments, auctions, and home hosted events. Events had honoree focus, industry focus, award recipient, and networking as the catalyst.

  • Managed and balanced a budget in excess of $5.7 Million throughout my tenure as the Director of Field Service/COO and assistant director of field service.

 

Relationship Building/Program
  • Muslim Heritage Camporee: designed as a family camporee to introduce Scouting; incorporated prayer and dietary needs; designed curriculum with volunteer chairman to demonstrate similarities to Scouting and the Muslim religion. This camporee has resulted in new units and an increase in membership in that community.

  • Nan Hai Chinese Initiative: worked with the Nan Hai company to introduce first generation Chinese mainlanders to Scouting. The goal was to help these young boys whose families have migrated to California to better assimilate to western culture. 80 youth participated in a program designed to marry the educational values of the Chinese culture and Scouting’s leadership and camping values.

  • Formed new partnerships with First Tee, Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, Pastors of Oakland and Goodwill.

  • Staff advisor to the following Council Committees: Council Friends of Scouting, popcorn, membership, advancement, Wood Badge, marketing, day camp, budget, youth protection, training, Sea Scouting, Venturing Rendezvous, Venturing Forum, zoo relations, relationships committee, Latter Day Saints, Catholic Committee, Jewish Committee, JLT, multiple special event fundraisers, LFL, nominating committee, multi-council commissioner college, commissioner summit, council commissioner cabinet.

  • Managed Resica Fall Scout Reservation which operated a dining hall camp and a cook your own meal camp that had 80 paid staff, 20 CITs and multiple volunteers per week and camped 4000 scouts for the summer.
